Hey, I’m Danny.

I work with people to better cope with life’s challenges and understand themselves in new ways.

My Approach

Experiential

I prioritize exploring not only thoughts and behaviours, but emotions as well. Emotions reside in our bodies and give us important information about what we want and don’t want. However, to many of us, our emotions can be overwhelming or mysterious. By exploring our emotions and experiencing them in new, safe, and relational ways (i.e. with someone else there to see and help), we can tap into more clarity for our lives.

Systemic

I believe it’s important to look at how you’re situated within your family, community, and the wider world. I take into consideration how systems of oppression, such as patriarchy, capitalism, white-supremacy, ableism, and heterosexism, impact you. I believe that what we often think is “abnormal” is actually a perfectly reasonable response to these systems of oppression.

Relational

The saying goes “we are hurt in community, so we must heal in community.” I believe the power of counselling is being seen and validated in our pain from a curious and compassionate stance. Counselling also provides a chance to understand our relationships in new ways, leading to new possibilities.

Who I work with

I work with all types of people, and I believe each person is worthy of care and support. I especially enjoy queer and trans folks, people who have been hurt in religious/spiritual communities, and people struggling with addiction. The manner in which I work tends to be a good fit for people who have tried things like CBT and not found them as helpful.

  • I incorporate thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and body sensations when working with clients. Specifically, I use Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and body-based therapies. While I incorporate some skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), people often come to me who say CBT was not the best fit.

  • I work in person Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-8pm, and virtual only on Wednesdays from 11am-7pm and Fridays from 10am-3pm.

  • My rate for a 50-minute session is $155 (no more GST on RCCs). I offer a limited number of reduced rate spots for those without external financial support.

  • I take cash and e-transfers as payment. All sessions are issued a receipt which can be submitted to extended health benefits that cover Registered Clinical Counsellors.

  • My office is on the first floor and is accessible for those with mobility aids. There are two gendered washrooms, each with a wheelchair accessible stall, and folks are encouraged to use the washroom that feels best for them. None of the doors in the building are automatic, so if you need any assistance, please let me know!
